Sentiment Honk

Sentiment Honk

Interactive Installation

Originally conceived during a residency at Pervasive Media Studio

'Sentiment Honk' is a series of robotic creatures consisting of self-blowing party horns (the kind that children often have at birthday parties) that respond to nearby negativity. This means that they will be listening into people's conversations and using sentiment analysis algorithms to decide when they detect a negative word or phrase. When they do, they will let out a 'honk', intervening both physically and audibly into the space. This project arose from thinking about the role of Artificial Intelligence systems operating in our everyday lives. In particular, it looks at the kinds of decisions these artificial neural networks are being asked to make and the validity of the results, particularly in the emotional realm.
